Denise Ramirez (she/her)

Psychotherapist LCSW

I am an NYS-licensed clinical social worker with many years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults through individual, couples, and family therapy. As a queer woman of color, I approach counseling from an inclusive and holistic lens that considers the individuals' lived experiences, goals, race, culture, gender, and sexual identity.

My intention is to create a warm and collaborative environment to help you feel seen, build self-awareness, and gain skills to feel more empowered.

More About Me

I was born in Washington Heights, NY, and raised in North Jersey.  I grew up listening to merengue, Spanish-language ballads and eating mangú con huevo y salami frito for breakfast  ----my favorite meal to this day.  I was constantly surrounded by my beloved family members, who are mixed racially, culturally, economically, politically and who have differing personalities.  Growing up with so many different perspectives shaped my worldview and instilled in me a curiosity for understanding them, myself and the relationship between us.  I take this curiosity with me everyday as I navigate my relationships and the challenges inherent to the human condition.

My Approach

My goal in every session is to co-create a caring and nonjudgemental environment that encourages you to get curious about your thoughts and feelings preparing you to tackle life's challenges and improving your relationship with yourself and others.  Together we explore your current and past experiences, helping you to gain clarity and relief from what troubles you.  We process and organize your thoughts and feelings, helping to contextualize and normalize your experiences.   Then, when you feel ready, we practice new ways of interacting in and out of the session.
